To mark three centuries of Guy’s Hospital, the GKT Gazette has produced Guy’s Hospital: 300 Years —Published in May 2026, this is a landmark volume celebrating the people, stories, discoveries and pioneering spirit that have shaped Guy’s since 1726.
Bringing together 560+ pages of original histories, illustrations, personal accounts and contributions from across the Guy’s community, the book explores medicine, research, education, nursing, student life and the remarkable individuals who have helped make Guy’s what it is today.

A brief description of three articles featured in Guy’s Hospital: 300 Years
Detailed in Save Guy’s Campaign & The Keats Society by Professor Richard Hughes In 1993, Guy’s Hospital faced the threat of closure, prompting staff, patients, local communities and supporters to launch the Save Guy’s Campaign. Professor Richard Hughes recounts the campaign’s extraordinary fight to protect the hospital, including the 1.04 million-signature petition, fundraising efforts, public protests and political battles that followed.
The Gordon Museum by William GJ Edwards traces the remarkable history of one of Guy’s most distinctive institutions. It explores how generations of medical students have learned from real specimens, instruments, anatomical models and other collections, alongside the development of new technologies and digital teaching.
In The King’s Sport Hall of Fame by Prof. Stephen Challacombe & Dr Charlie Beardmore, the creation of the King’s Sport Hall of Fame is discussed on the backdrop of a rousing sporting spirit at GKT, celebrating athletes, clubs and individuals who have shaped university sport. The article highlights some of Guy’s most notable sporting figures, including England rugby international W. G. Mitchell and world amateur cycling champion Herbert Liddel Cortis.
